Breathwork waiver & Code of Conduct

Please read carefully before participating in any breathwork, sauna, or ice bath session.

Breathwork is a powerful, transformative practice that can bring deep emotional release, clarity and nervous system regulation. However, it can also be physically, mentally, and emotionally activating. For your safety and well-being, please review the information below thoroughly.

Health & Safety Guidelines

Breathwork is a powerful and transformative practice. While it can offer deep clarity, healing, and nervous system regulation, it can also be activating physically, mentally, and emotionally. Your wellbeing comes first, always.

Please review the following information and reach out before class if any of these apply to you. This is not about exclusion - it’s about ensuring you feel safe, supported, and empowered in your experience.

Please contact me in advance or refrain from breathwork practices if you:

  • Are pregnant (any stage)

  • Have severe panic attacks

  • Have a heart condition, history of stroke, angina, or cardiovascular issues

  • Experience high or low blood pressure

  • Have a history of seizures, epilepsy, or a family history of aneurysms

  • Are on medications that affect brain chemistry (e.g., antidepressants, anti-anxiety meds, ADHD meds)

  • Have a diagnosis of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis, or have been hospitalised for emotional/psychiatric reasons in the last 10 years

  • Live with severe trauma history, PTSD, or emotional dysregulation

  • Have detached retina, glaucoma, or kidney disease

  • Have diabetes (Type 1 or 2)

  • Fasting

  • Have an uncontrolled thyroid condition

  • Experience severe asthma (if mild/moderate, bring your inhaler and check in with the facilitator)

  • Are recovering from surgery, injury, or childbirth, or have stitches

  • Experience high nervous system sensitivity or strong psychosomatic symptoms

  • Have used alcohol, recreational drugs, or psychedelics in the last 24 hours

  • Have a pacemaker or metal implants/plates

Other Important Considerations:

  • Avoid breathwork if fasting for more than 12 hours (risk of dizziness or faintness).

  • If you have chronic depression, anxiety, or emotional dysregulation, breathwork can be supportive (depending on technique) but please check in with your healthcare provider and speak with me beforehand so we can hold the space safely for you.

General Participation Terms

By attending class, you confirm that:

  • To the best of your knowledge, you have no health condition that increases your risk in participating—or you have been cleared by a medical professional.

  • You will inform your facilitator of any changes in your health, or any pain, discomfort, or concerns during the session.

  • You agree to follow the facilitator's guidance and communicate any need for support.

  • We reserve the right to decline participation if it is considered unsafe for you or others.

Sauna & Ice Bath Guidelines (if applicable)

  • Sit on a towel when using the sauna to maintain hygiene.

  • Shower between sauna and ice bath use to support cleanliness and body regulation.

  • Do not submerge your head in the ice bath to avoid contact with eyes, nose or mouth.

  • No outdoor footwear in any wet or shared areas.

  • Let staff know or myself if you have any medical conditions - especially pregnancy, heart issues, or blood pressure concerns.

  • Women: It’s advised to shorten your ice bath exposure and choose a slightly higher water temperature during your menstrual or premenstrual phase, as cold can increase cramping, affect your flow, and place extra stress on the body. Always honour your cycle and listen to your body.

Your Responsibility

By attending a breathwork, sauna, or ice bath session, you confirm that:

  • You have read, understood, and honestly disclosed any relevant health conditions or concerns.

  • You are participating voluntarily and take full responsibility for your physical and emotional health during the session.

  • You are free of alcohol, drugs, or psychedelics for at least 24 hours before the session.

  • You understand that breathwork, sauna, and ice baths are complementary practices and not substitutes for medical treatment.

  • You have sought medical advice as needed regarding your physical, mental, or emotional health.

  • You accept that these practices may bring up strong emotional or physical sensations, altered states, and past memories.

  • You will inform the facilitator if you experience any discomfort or distress during the session.

  • You release the facilitator and the practices from liability for any injury or adverse effects resulting from your participation. What can i expect in a session

In a single session, you might experience:

    • Strong physical sensations – tingling, pulsing, vibration, or shifts in body awareness

    • Emotional release – anything from bliss to anger, grief, unexpected tears or laughter

    • Temperature changes – feeling hot and sweaty or suddenly cold and shivery

    • Deep relaxation – drifting into a dreamlike or meditative state

    • Strong activation – waves of energy, movement, or emotional catharsis

    • Or even… stillness – which doesn’t mean “nothing happened.” Sometimes the shift is subtle or shows up later

These experiences are all part of the breath’s natural intelligence. Whatever arises is welcome and held with compassion.

    Physical Effects May Include:

    • Dizziness or lightheadedness

    • Tingling in hands, feet, or face

    • Muscle stiffness or cramping (especially in the hands or feet - known as tetany)

    • Feeling hot, cold, or sweaty

    • Involuntary movements (shaking, twitching, shivering)

    • Dehydration (so please come well-hydrated)

    • Rarely: Fainting or dissociation. These are not common, but can occur with emotional intensity or over-breathing. If they do, I am here to support you fully in a grounded and safe way.

    Emotional Effects May Include:

    • Sudden waves of emotion - joy, sadness, vulnerability, or grief

    • Feeling deeply connected to others in the space

    • Strong emotional resonance with others – for example, hearing someone else cry, shout, or release can stir something in you too

    • Flashbacks, memories, or visual insights rising from the subconscious

Everything you feel is valid. Most people find that even when the experience is intense, it feels meaningful, needed, or even beautiful. The breath has a way of gently (or powerfully) showing you what you’re ready to feel and release.
