Breathwork waiver & Code of Conduct

Please read carefully before participating in any breathwork session.

Breathwork is a powerful, transformative practice that can bring deep emotional release, clarity, and nervous system regulation. However, it can also be physically, mentally, and emotionally activating. For your safety and well-being, please review the following information thoroughly.

Contraindications & Important Considerations

If any of the following apply to you, please connect with me before the session so we can discuss how to best support your participation and ensure your safety. This is not about exclusion - it’s about creating a safe and supportive space for everyone.

  • Pregnancy (any stage)

  • Severe trauma history or PTSD

  • Use of recreational drugs, alcohol, or psychedelics within 24 hours before the session

  • Medication affecting brain chemistry (antidepressants, anti-anxiety, ADD/OCD meds)

  • Detached retina or glaucoma

  • Kidney disease

  • High or low blood pressure

  • Heart conditions, including past heart attack, angina, or stroke

  • Personal or family history of aneurysms

  • Uncontrolled thyroid conditions

  • Diabetes (Type 1 or 2)

  • Epilepsy or seizure history

  • Bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis, or psychiatric hospitalisation within the past 10 years

  • Severe psychosomatic symptoms or high nervous system sensitivity

  • Recent surgery, pregnancy, stitches, or healing injury

Additional considerations:

  • Avoid breathwork if fasting for more than 12 hours (risk of dizziness/faintness)

  • If you have chronic depression, anxiety, or emotional dysregulation, please consult a healthcare provider before participating

Your Responsibility

By the waiver or code of conduct, you confirm that:

  • You have read, understood, and honestly disclosed any relevant health conditions or concerns.

  • You are participating voluntarily and take full responsibility for your physical and emotional health during the breathwork session.

  • You are free of alcohol, drugs, or psychedelics for at least 24 hours before the session.

  • You understand that breathwork is a complementary practice and not a substitute for medical treatment.

  • You have sought medical advice as needed regarding your physical, mental, or emotional health.

  • You accept that breathwork may bring up strong emotional or physical sensations, altered states, and past memories.

  • You will inform the facilitator if you experience any discomfort or distress during the session.

  • You release the facilitator and the breathwork practice from liability for any injury or adverse effects resulting from your participation.

What can i expect in a session

In a single session, you might experience:

    • Strong physical sensations – tingling, pulsing, vibration, or shifts in body awareness

    • Emotional release – anything from bliss to anger, grief, unexpected tears or laughter

    • Temperature changes – feeling hot and sweaty or suddenly cold and shivery

    • Deep relaxation – drifting into a dreamlike or meditative state

    • Strong activation – waves of energy, movement, or emotional catharsis

    • Or even… stillness – which doesn’t mean “nothing happened.” Sometimes the shift is subtle or shows up later

These experiences are all part of the breath’s natural intelligence. Whatever arises is welcome and held with compassion.

    Physical Effects May Include:

    • Dizziness or lightheadedness

    • Tingling in hands, feet, or face

    • Muscle stiffness or cramping (especially in the hands or feet - known as tetany)

    • Feeling hot, cold, or sweaty

    • Involuntary movements (shaking, twitching, shivering)

    • Dehydration (so please come well-hydrated)

    • Rarely: Fainting or dissociation. These are not common, but can occur with emotional intensity or over-breathing. If they do, we are here to support you fully in a grounded and safe way.

    Emotional Effects May Include:

    • Sudden waves of emotion - joy, sadness, vulnerability, or grief

    • Feeling deeply connected to others in the space

    • Strong emotional resonance with others – for example, hearing someone else cry, shout, or release can stir something in you too

    • Flashbacks, memories, or visual insights rising from the subconscious

Everything you feel is valid. Most people find that even when the experience is intense, it feels meaningful, needed, or even beautiful. The breath has a way of gently (or powerfully) showing you what you’re ready to feel and release.
